Filmmaker Peter Jackson has confirmed to Gold Derby that the “The Adventures of Tintin” sequel will be his next directorial effort and his first studio film in over a decade (his last was 2014’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”).
Speaking with the outlet, he confirmed he and partner Fran Walsh recently wrapped up work on the script after previously teasing he was in the midst of it back in May at Cannes:
“Fran and I have been writing a script for the next Tintin film because 15 years ago, Steven Spielberg directed a Tintin film and I produced it. The idea was that then I was supposed to go straight onto a second one, and we’d swap the roles, so I’d direct the second one and he’d produce it. It’s just taken 15 years to get there, unfortunately, a bit late. But it’s a timeless story. So we just wrapped up. So probably the next film I’ll direct is a Tintin movie.”
The 2011 film, which grossed $374 million from a $135 million budget, was loosely based on an amalgamation of three Tintin books – “The Crab with the Golden Claws,” “The Secret of the Unicorn” and “Red Rackham’s Treasure”.
It’s widely assumed a sequel would be based on “The Seven Crystal Balls”/”Prisoners of the Sun” two-parter but Jackson hasn’t confirmed which story or stories they are adapting for the work.
Jackson and Walsh writing the script marks a change from the first film which was worked on by Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright.
