The “Halloween” franchise is making a comeback, though maybe not as a TV series as previously reported.
In late 2023, Miramax Television signed a wide-ranging deal with Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films to develop and co-produce a TV series based on the franchise.
The plan was to use it as a launchpad for a new “Halloween” cinematic universe spanning film and television. Miramax already has the film rights the plan was for a full creative reset as opposed to something like Universal and Blumhouse’s 2018 trilogy of films which served as a direct sequel to the original.
Then the project seemed to be put on hold and that’s where things were left until a new report this week at Horror Films News.
They claim that plans have shifted so that a new film, not a TV series, will serve as the start of this new iteration with a planned release in 2028. As with the show, the plan is a full reboot/creative reset.
With Miramax and Universal’s partnership done after “Halloween Ends,” it’s not clear who might distribute the new film. The report hasn’t been confirmed as yet.
