While “Evil Dead Burn” hits cinemas next month, another entry is on the way titled “Evil Dead Wrath” which is set to open in April 2028 and wrapped filming in New Zealand the other week.

It turns out Robert Tapert, Sam Raimi’s producing partner on the franchise, revealed some new details about the film back in April, and no-one noticed until today.

Tapert reportedly made the appearance at Michigan State University, the same university that Raimi’s original “The Evil Dead” characters (including Ash Williams) were students of when they visited the infamous wood cabin.

Dread Central found a since-removed video on YouTube in which Tapert revealed that the upcoming Francis Galluppi-directed film will be set in the earliest part of the “Evil Dead” timeline.

Specifically, the action will unfold nearly a decade before anything in the first film:

“This is yet another great departure. It predates everything. It takes place in 1972. It’s the story of a French woman in a bad marriage in America, and… what we will discover along the ride – was probably an abusive husband, whose family did not believe her – and so they were basically the in-laws from hell.”

Galluppi (“The Last Stop in Yuma County”) and his cinematographer are also trying very hard to emulate the look of 1970s movies:

“It will feel like a 1972 movie because the director and his DP want to imitate the look and feel of something that’s called Ektachrome 100, which was a film stock… [it’s] a film stock a lot of movies [were] shot on back then. And so it’s very warm, very tungsten.”

He also makes comparisons with Sébastien Vaniček’s “Evil Dead Burn”, saying the two will look very different:

“Two entirely different filmmakers, one [Burn] that shoots everything on a 110-millimeter lens handheld, always moving, always shaking. The other one [Wrath] is very Tarantino-esque, very deliberate. That one, unlike Burn, has a lot of coming-of-age sexual hijinks in it… and it goes there, I think.”

“Evil Dead Burn” hits cinemas on July 10th while “Evil Dead Wrath” arrives April 7th 2028.
