
Actress Glenn Close and filmmaker Ridley Scott are among those set to receive honorary Oscars at this year’s Governors Awards.
Also receiving honors are animator Floyd Norman and producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler.
The Academy said, in an official statement, that they are “five remarkable individuals whose groundbreaking work has forever shaped the art of film-making.”
Close has been nominated for Oscars eight times, including her work in films like “Fatal Attraction” and “Dangerous Liaisons,” but has never won. A statement from the Academy cites her as having “brought to life some of the most complex characters in cinema”.
Scott similarly has been nominated four times but never won, specifically as Best Director for “Thelma & Louise,” “Gladiator” and “Black Hawk Down” along with a producing credit Best Picture nomination for “The Martian”. He’s said to be a “true visionary whose decades-long legacy has left an immeasurable impact on global cinema and culture”.
90-year-old Norman has done animation work spanning from “The Jungle Book” to “Monsters Inc”. Vachon and Koffler have produced films such as “Past Lives,” “Materialists” and “May December”.
The Governors Awards ceremony will take place on November 15th.
