New details have emerged regarding filmmaker Michael Mann’s highly anticipated sequel to 1995’s “Heat” from an apparent casting grid that has been shared online.
Scooper DanielRPK (via CinemaWire), who the other week indicated filming is slated to run from September 2026 through until March 2027 in both Los Angeles and Paraguay, is behind the new report.
His posting suggests the film will star Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis, Christian Bale as Vincent Hanna, and Stephen Graham as Neil McCauley – the trio taking on the Kilmer, Pacino and De Niro roles respectively from the original.
In addition, Adam Driver will reportedly play new antagonist Otis Lloyd Wardell, a serial rapist and psychopathic murderer who leads a gang of vicious home invaders.
In the novel, Wardell in 1988 has a major run-in with McCauley, with his actions impacting the kind of man McCauley is in the original film. At the same time, the case against Wardell is why Hanna quits the Chicago PD.
Wardell then plays a big part in the scenes set in 2000 Los Angeles with Shiherlis and Hanna – he’s essentially the reason for the split timeline structure of the narrative.
Specifics of Jason Clarke’s role in the film are not being shared, though best guesses are that he’s the younger version of Jon Voight’s Nate.
Amazon MGM Studios is backing the project rumored to have a budget of around $200 million.
