Nicholas Winding Refn is something of a head scratcher as a director. Bronson was genuinely different, then Drive seemed to hit almost every mark, taking arthouse mainstream.

Then, by the time you got to the end of Only God Forgives, you find yourself thinking “What did I just watch?” before The Neon Demon makes you wonder if he’s about to disappear up his own bottom.

Now, after a decade away, he’s back with Her Private Hell.

When a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, unleashing a deadly and elusive entity. A heinous killer targeting women – Leather Man (ahem).

A troubled young woman searches for her father, and her quest collides with an American GI on a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from Hell.

Sounds intriguing, but fraught with potential for more bottom exploration.

Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton are the leads. Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Dougray Scott, Diego Calva, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, Hidetoshi Nishijima, and Parker Sawyers co-star.

Her Private Hell is 109 minutes long and was shot in Tokyo. It will be presented in a mix of English and Japanese aaaaaaand he’s gone. Up to his ankles.

Neon will release Her Private Hell on July 24th. It has it’s premiere in Cannes this season, at their own annual fart huffing festival.
