It’s official, Netflix has begun development of a third movie in the Adam Sandler-led “Grown Ups” franchise.
Cast members like David Spade and Kevin James have previously teased the possibility on social media, but today marked the first time Netflix has officially acknowledged the project.
No casting news was confirmed, but it’s expected that the core five male leads – Sandler, Spade, James, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider – will return.
The films follow a group of lifelong friends who reunite with their families at a 4th of July outing. The cast also included Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Joyce Van Patten, Colin Quinn, Steve Buscemi and Tim Meadows.
Kyle Newacheck directs the project, with Sandler co-writing the script with Tim Herlihy. The first film opened in 2010 and earned $271 million at the global box office. A 2013 sequel generated $247 million worldwide.
Sandler produces alongside Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo and Herlihy.
