Production has officially begun on the animated feature “Doctor Dolittle: King of the Wild” at Sycamore Studios and Reel FX Animation Studios (“The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” “The Book of Life”).

The story follows Doctor Dolittle after a livestreamed expedition goes wrong, accidentally putting a creature into a poacher’s grasp.

To fix the disaster and restore his reputation, Dolittle must reunite with three former zoo allies for a rescue mission tied to the survival of the animal kingdom.

Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen, who penned the “PAW Patrol” films, wrote the screenplay while Timothy Reckart directs the project.

Sycamore Studios has big franchise hopes for this with plans for graphic novels, games, and theme-park-style attractions connected to zoos and family entertainment venues.

The property, based on Hugh Lofting’s books, has had a very mixed response on screen in the past. Three attempts have been made to adapt it to film, all of which scored negative reviews and two of which (the 1967 Rex Harrison original and 2020 Robert Downey Jr. remake) became major box-office bombs.
