Patrick Schwarzenegger (“The White Lotus,” “Gen V,” “The Staircase”) has joined “Bone Tomahawk” and “Brawl in Cell Block 99” filmmaker S. Craig Zahler’s new film “The Bookie & The Bruiser”.
The story unfolds in New York City 1959 and follows a pensive Jewish man named Rivner (Theo James) and an oversized Italian-American tough named Boscolo (Vince Vaughn).
Returning from World War II as changed men no longer fitting into their old lives. The two opt to partner up as a bookmaker and his enforcer and run an illicit gambling operation that proves highly profitable – but dangerous.
Their operation thrives until they’re caught in a violent power struggle between the Mafia and an Irish gang, forcing them into a violent fight for survival.
Schwarzenegger will play twin brothers Augie and Bernard. Augie is a desperate and down-on-his-luck gambler, while Bernard is his respectable family-man twin. Both find their lives violently upended by Augie’s deception.
Zahler wrote the pic and directs and Anthony Katagas, Dave Caplan, Dan Bekerman and Vaughn produce. Schwarzenegger will be seen in Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller “Bunker” and the adaptation of the bestseller “Beach Read”.
