Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (“Interstellar”), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (“Dune: Part Two”), Emmy nominee Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) and Chinese star Tang Wei (“Decision to Leave”) are set to lead filmmaker Park Chan-Wook’s next feature.
The “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden” director, coming off the critical success of his feature “No Other Choice” last year, will helm the film which is a western titled “The Brigands of Rattlecreek”.
“Bone Tomahawk” writer/director S. Craig Zahler penned the original screenplay that follows a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits.
The bandits had used the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorise the occupants of a small town. The project has been around for over 20 years and topped the 2006 Black List – effectively igniting Zahler’s career.
Bradley Fischer and Park produce the film, and Park did revisions on the most recent draft of the script and the budget is expected to hover above $60 million.
Next month, Park will preside over the jury at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. ‘Rattlecreek’ will also be on sale at Cannes.
