Filming has officially commenced on the “John Wick” spin-off film “Caine,” both directed and starring Donnie Yen.

Yen announced the news on Instagram today. The blind assassin character was last seen in a post-credits scene in Paris with his daughter, having stopped the threats to her life.

Caine’s movie comes after last year’s Ana de Armas-led “Ballerina” and ahead of a prequel anime film, the sequel series “John Wick: Under the High Table,” and a potential fifth mainline ‘Wick’ entry.

Two years ago, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson said if Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski come up with a good idea for a fifth entry, the studio will do it.

Speaking with Business Insider today, it seems they’ve found one:

“Chad and Keanu have an idea that they think can be really exciting. There are a lot of steps, so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it. But in terms of finding a core idea, they seem to have landed on something that they are excited about, and now we’ll see.”

He confirms both “Caine” and the animated prequel film will come first so it’ll likely be a while before another “John Wick” film hits cinemas.
