When you stand back for a moment and think about this, none of this makes any sense, does it? The SPUMC, in its various forms, has completely failed to launch. Spider-Man movies can seemingly only successfully exist these days within the loving embrace of the MCU. Then comes Spider-Noir.

Deciding to launch a period spin-off, based on an alternate universe Spider-Man seen only in an animated adventure, would seem to be an act of folly.

Then to stack it with huge stars and send it out on streaming seems borderline lunacy. Yet to attract this level of talent and get Amazon all excited, maybe they know something we don’t? Therefore, it all becomes rather intriguing, to say the least. What to expect? We have no idea, and that would make it at least worth checking out.

Now, Amazon Prime Video has released a featurette for this live-action Spider-Noir series that focuses on the main villains of the piece – Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson), Sandman (Jack Huston), Tombstone (Abraham Popoola), and Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell).

Spider-Noir tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Nicolas Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

Cage reprises the role of the character he voiced in animation form in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot as the co-showrunners.

Co-stars include Li Jun Li, Lamorne Morris, Lukas Haas, Abraham Popoola, Karen Rodriguez, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, and Andrew Robinson.

Harry Bradbeer directs the first two episodes and executive produces. Also involved are Spider-Man overseer Amy Pascal and Spider-Verse creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Apparently, the series will be made available in both black-and-white, for those of you who own a fedora and smoke a pipe, and color.

Spider-Noir arrives first on MGM+ on May 25th in the US, then worldwide on Prime Video on May 27th. It will drop all at once, so you can binge away.
