The gore-heavy “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” was one of two major new wide releases this week, the title making its debut in third place at the U.S. domestic box-office with $13 million for the Friday-Sunday.
Critics were mixed/negative on the film, and the audience CinemaScore at C+ is, though not “Wolf Man” bad, it’s no “The Invisible Man” (B+) either. In addition, the title pulled in a further $7.9 million from overseas.
The Bob Odenkirk-led action movie “Normal” was the other one, debuting to just $2.6 million for the three-day and a sixth-place start. A CinemaScore of just C+ sadly indicates people aren’t warming to it.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” held onto the top spot with $30 million in its third weekend, down 56% and set to hit $350 million domestically by Sunday.
In second was “Project Hail Mary” with $18.5 million in its fifth weekend, down just 23% and currently with $283.1 million. The longevity of the title makes Amazon’s decision to keep the film in cinemas for an extended run understandable.
Fourth place is the Zendaya and Robert Pattinson-led romantic drama “The Drama” with $4.7 million – down 38% in its third weekend – the title now at $37.7 million domestic total and on par with “Challengers”.
In fifth was the rom-com “You, Me & Tuscany” with $3.55 million – down 55% in its second weekend.
