Former “Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington says he was deeply offended by the viral petition back in 2019 that demanded the final season of the series be remade.
Speaking with The New York Times, he said the petition “genuinely angered me” and added “like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media.”
Harington starred in the series as Jon Snow. Said petition asked for the remake to involve ‘competent writers’ and started with the aim of achieving 15,000 signatures. It eventually obtained over 1.8 million.
He added that he was in rehab at the time the final season premiered so missed some of it as it happened. When he was out, he said he was shocked how overwhelming the negative the response had been.
That eighth and final season was heavily criticised for multiple aspects from its creative choices with characters to the way it was lit and shot.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys previously said there was never any serious consideration to listening to demands for the reboot, though the network was aware of it.
