Nearly four years after the first season aired, it has been confirmed that Ryan Murphy‘s asylum drama series “Ratched” has been cancelled.

The axing comes despite the series having produced only one season of what was initially a two-season order. Paulson confirmed the news in a video posted to X.

Unfolding in mid-20th century Northern California, this prequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” starred Sarah Paulson as the diabolical Nurse Mildred Ratched.

The series explored her first days navigating the mental healthcare system of a psychiatric hospital – a journey that will lead to her becoming head nurse.

Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo and Vincent D’Onofrio co-starred.

Evan Romansky created the series whilst Murphy, Ian Brennan and Michael Douglas executive produced. The series received four Emmy nominations.
