Following the project’s announcement on Friday, the first teaser trailer has been released for Netflix’s “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” anime series.
The original ten-episode “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” anime premiered back in 2022, serving as a prequel to CD Projekt Red’s “Cyberpunk 2077” game and takes place about a year before its events.
The series received critical acclaim and was originally planned as a standalone piece. Then in late 2024, Netflix Animation teased a “return to Night City” was coming in some form before its big reveal the other day.
The new series synopsis calls this a “raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
The new series will be standalone, not a direct follow-up to the first season. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi is handing over the reins to Kai Ikarashi for the second run, Ikarashi making his directorial debut on the work.
Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor serves as showrunner, story writer and producer, while animation studio Trigger is once again handling the visuals.
