FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki teased last year that ‘interest’ had arisen over a screen adaptation of 2022’s celebrated fantasy RPG title “Elden Ring”.

The game unfolds in a world called The Lands Between. Players take on the role of one of the Tarnished, individuals whose ancestors were exiled years ago. When the Elden Ring is shattered, they get the chance to return and conquer the land they were once banished from.

The game was created in collaboration with “Game of Thrones” author George R. R. Martin who handled a lot of the world building. It’s Martin who offers a new tease today suggesting a film adaptation is potentially in the early stages.

Martin was asked by IGN if he’d be interested in coming back for a sequel to “Elden Ring”. The author side-stepped that question but did hint about a film in the works and adds that any involvement he may have with a movie faces one significant obstacle – his commitment to pen the sixth “Game of Thrones” novel “The Winds of Winter”:

“Well, I can’t say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring. We’ll see if that [the Elden Ring movie] comes to pass and what the extent of my involvement was, I don’t know. I’m a few years behind with my latest book, so that also limits the amount of things that I can do.”

Martin published his fifth ‘Thrones’ novel back in 2011, the same year HBO’s adaptation premiered.
