When looking back at film and TV in 2024, one of the most discussed shows for good or bad was Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” now cancelled series “The Acolyte”.
Set during the High Republic era of the franchise, the highly divisive series became fodder in the culture wars over everything about it – from its writing to its casting to its production values.
It was also revealed that the series was set up for at least one more season, epecially with its ending which was a mini-cliffhanger that saw Manny Jacinto’s Qimir and Amandla Stenberg’s Osha going off to explore her powers – with Darth Plagueis waiting in the wings.
Earlier this month Jacinto teased at FanExpo San Francisco that a further season would’ve explored the Qimir/Palgueis connection and more about his character.
Now a new quote from that appearance has gone up at Collider this week which confirms that showrunner Leslye Headland had a vision for the series that went beyond a second season. Jacinto says:
“I remember Leslye’s dream was for us to do three seasons, not just this one… But there’s something about having a finite ending to things that makes it so much more special. So, yeah, I don’t know if I’d do it or not, but you know, three seasons and a movie would have been incredible, and I know we had so much more to explore with that second season.”
The comments follow in the wake of Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman confirming that the show’s high production cost – over $230 million for eight episodes – were too high compared to its audience draw which is why it was cancelled.
