The Disney+ series “Percy Jackson” has cast 6’4 Canadian actor Daniel Diemer (“The Midnight Club,” “The Man in the High Castle”) as Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother, in the show’s upcoming second season.
The news, announced as part of the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel with author Rick Riordan saying the actor’s “enthusiasm and talent bring a whole new dimension to Tyson”.
Tyson is a key character in the second of Riordan’s Percy Jackson novels “Sea of Monsters” which is serving as the basis of the show’s second season.
That season will see Percy (Walker Scobell) and his fellow demigods on an oceangoing quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Production on the new season gets underway next month.
The first season launched in late December to good reviews and a reported 13.3 million worldwide ‘views’ over six days for the show’s first episode. That figure doubled after three weeks.
Cast members Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Virginia Kull, Adam Copeland, and co-showrunners Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg were on hand for the Hall H panel today.
In addition Jay Duplass, who plays Hades on the show, moderated the discussion.
