In January last year came word that the Madonna biopic that had been in the works at Universal Pictures had been scrapped.
The project subjected multiple actresses to an intense singing and dancing boot camp before ultimately “Ozark” actress Julia Garner won the title role.
Madonna was to have directed and co-wrote the script with Diablo Cody (“Juno”) and Erin Cressida Wilson (“The Girl on the Train”), while Amy Pascal was to produce.
The studio offered no comment on the reasoning behind the plug being pulled on the film which was to mark the singer’s third directorial effort following “Filth and Wisdom” and “W.E.”.
Now though, it appears the project has been resurrected with Madonna herself teasing on social media the film is not only back but has a new title “Who’s That Girl”.
In her Instagram posting, Madonna herself is is seen with an old-fashioned typewriter and makes edits to a movie script with the credits saying: “Rewritten by Madonna and ECW.”
EW adds that Garner is still attached to star in the film which is expected to chart her rise through the entertainment industry in New York, writing “Like a Prayer,” filming “Evita” and all the key songs of the 80s and early 1990s.
