Universal Pictures has scored the film rights to the BOOM! Studios graphic novel “A Vicious Circle” created by Mattson Tomlin and artist Lee Bermejo.
Tomlin, who also created the upcoming “Terminator Zero” animated series and is penning Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” will write the screenplay adapting his own work.
The two-hand action thriller follows assassins from the future hunting each other through time and is being dubbed “John Wick meets Looper”.
“Creed” and “Black Panther” filmmaker Ryan Coogler will produce via his Proximity Media label. Stephen Christy, Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler also produce.
The comic has been a hit, selling over 100,000 copies of the first two issues worldwide to date and landing multiple Eisner Award nominations. The work sees its art style change to suit genres and time periods as the characters jump from one era to another.
Rebecca Cho and Adam Yoelin will executive produce. Tomlin is already writing an adaptation of the Keanu Reeves-created BOOM! comic “BRZRKR” for Netflix.
