By The critically acclaimed David Dastmalchian-led horror film “Late Night With The Devil” has set records on horror-centric streaming platform Shudder.
Screen Rant reports that according to Shudder, the film’s April 19th streaming debut on the SVOD platform broke the record for the streamer’s biggest opening weekend ever.
The movie has reportedly already become the most watched release on both Shudder and AMC+, surpassing prior record holders “When Evil Lurks” and “V/H/S/99” in their first full weeks.
Written and directed by Australian filmmakers Colin and Cameron Cairnes, the indie supernatural horror tale revolves around a 1977 live television broadcast where an over-eager late night talk show host unknowingly unleashes evil on unsuspecting viewers.
The film had its world premiere at SXSW and scored a limited theatrical run in late March, ultimately taking in $11.1 million including a single-day gross of $666,666 in its opening weekend.
Review wise the film snagged a 97% (7.9/10) on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72/100 on Metacritic, making it one of the best received films of the genre for the year to date.
With such success it has raised the obvious question as to whether a sequel might happen, sadly no update on that front yet.
