Though it fizzled at the box-office, Shane Black’s 2016 neo-noir buddy comedy “The Nice Guys” has become something of a modern cult classic in recent years.

The film sees Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as a private eye and enforcer, respectively, who team up to investigate a case in 1970s Los Angeles.

Despite good reviews, it grossed just $62.8 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $50 million. However it has found a second life on streaming where it has only gone up in estimation.

Could we see a sequel some day? Speaking with ComicBook.com to promote “The Fall Guy,” Gosling sadly shattered those hopes saying he doesn’t think one will happen:

“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds. So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”

FOX did attempt to do a TV series version of the film back in 2017 at one point, one that would’ve seen two female leads, but that incarnation never got out of development.
