George Miller outdid himself with 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” delivering what is widely considered one of the greatest action films ever made and certainly one of the best films of the 2010s.
So it’s no surprise that anticipation is sky high for his return to that world with “Furiosa,” a prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth that will hopefully capture at least some of that ‘Fury Road’ magic.
Speaking with Total Film, Taylor-Joy discussed an action sequence dubbed “Stairway To Nowhere” on the set – a 15-minute sequence that reportedly took 78 days to shoot due to its complexity and ambition.
In fact, almost 200 stunt people worked on the sequence daily which is dubbed an integral part of the Furiosa character’s story:
“George and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long. It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit. It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. On the day we finished, everybody got a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine!”
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will kick off with an Australian premiere at the State Theatre in Sydney on May 2nd followed by the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th. It will hit cinemas everywhere on May 24th.
