In a shock announcement, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is reportedly going back to the drawing board regarding his final film.

The director had begun preparations to film his new feature “the Movie Critic” this year, but sources tell THR that he’s now backing away from the project entirely.

As previously reported, the film was set in 1977 California and draws inspiration from a cynical movie critic who would write great reviews for skin mags which the filmmaker grew up reading.

The film was expected to include recreations of films from the era but with alterations, most notably the Paul Schrader-penned “Rolling Thunder”.

Along the way however, the trade says the film morphed into something else with Brad Pitt reprising his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” role of Cliff Booth.

In recent weeks, Tarantino has had a change of heart again and will now do something else entirely.

The film had planned to shoot for one day in August to qualify for a California Tax Credit before it began production in earnest next year, but that’s no longer on the cards.
