Somehow, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (no longer Part One) grossed over $567 million worldwide and also secured two Oscar nominations, but still underperformed expectations. Such was the galactic cost, including the marketing. It suffered from Oppenheimer pushing it out of premium format screens via an exclusive deal, then the Barbenheimer phenomenon hitting full force and simply taking over the summer.
Now the final chapter in the Mission: Impossible franchise is about to land and somebody else will join Cruise and Co, who will obviously be disavowed again and have to obtain something that requires Tom to jump off something very big, and do some running. If we are really lucky, he will have to hang on to something really tight while exchanging pithy comments with somebody via an earpiece.
Now Katy O’Brian has joined the cast of Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 8 – Title TBC – at Paramount Pictures and Skydance.
She is currently receiving rave reviews for Love Lies Bleeding.
Other newcomers to the franchise for this installment include Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, and Hannah Waddingham. Standard returnees are Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff.
McQuarrie directs from his own script and is also a producer alongside Cruise.
O’Brian has also appeared in The Mandalorian and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Her next movie is Twisters with Glen Powell.
Mission: Impossible 8 will release on May 23rd 2025.
