Following strong turns as both the lethal bald Feyd-Rautha in “Dune: Part Two” and in the Apple TV+ war series “Masters of the Air,” Oscar-nominee Austin Butler is set to team with filmmaker Darren Aronofsky for his next project.
The “Black Swan,” “The Wrestler” and “The Whale” director has lined up the crime thriller “Caught Stealing” at Sony Pictures, based on the book by Charlie Huston who will adapt his own work.
Butler would play Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of 1990s Manhattan.
Aronofsky’s Protozoa production company label will produce the feature. Several key Sony execs have a longstanding relationship with Aronofsky, and Butler is linked to an adaptation of Don Winslow’s “City on Fire” which has been setup there.
Butler will next be seen on screen alongside Tom Hardy in the period bikie gang drama “The Bikeriders” from acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols. That and this continue Butler’s current streak of working with auteurs.
