A new report at Kotaku indicates that internally within Rockstar, whilst the internal goal is to release “Grand Theft Auto VI” in early 2025 – the game could be pushed back all the way to 2026.
Such a delay is being considered a ‘fallback plan’ if the production hits problems, potentially referring to the number of high-profile leaks about the game.
The story will partly take place in Vice City – a fictional Miami – and star a pair of protagonists, one of whom is a women which is a first for the series.
Rockstar released the first official trailer for the game in December, the clip racking up over 90 million views in just 24 hours. The plan has been for a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release in early 2025 with PC at a later date.
Rockstar has faced internal backlash this year after they informed staff of plans to end its hybrid working policy for productivity and security reasons.
The news comes as Reuters is reporting that the China-set “Assassin’s Creed: Jade” is looking likely to be delayed from a 2024 to a 2025 release.
