“Suicide Squad” and “Fury” director David Ayer is set to helm the dramatic thriller “Heart of the Beast” which has been set up at Paramount Pictures, Wild Chickens Productions and Cedar Park Entertainment.

The story follows a former Navy SEAL and his combat dog amid their attempts to find civilization after suffering a catastrophic accident which has left them stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness.

The SEAL also had a heart attack and whilst he survived he can’t work or exercise too intensely or he’ll have another and likely die. The pair must traverse difficult terrain on limited rations to try and get to the nearest highway.

Cameron Alexander penned the film which has been in development for nearly a decade. Dubbed “Cast Away meets American Sniper,” the project was initially picked up by Daniela Taplin Lundberg (“Beasts of No Nation”) back in 2017.

“La La Land” filmmaker Damien Chazelle will produce alongside Ayer, Chris Long and Olivia Hamilton.

Ayer is coming off Jason Statham-led thriller “The Beekeeper” which has been one of the year’s biggest success stories to date with $150 million at the global box office.
