“Barbie” star Margot Robbie and her LuckyChap production company label is set to produce a film adaptation of the long-running game life simulation franchise “The Sims”.

In addition Kate Herron, who directed the first season of Marvel Studios’ “Loki,” will direct and co-write the film alongside Briony Redman.

In the game, players control virtual avatars and have them do all manners of things, from building homes to falling in love, raising children, even killing their characters. Successive expansion packs and games allow the player to do more and more.

The first game debuted in 2000 and saw subsequent mainline entries in 2004, 2009 and 2014. 20th Century Studios attempted a film adaptation back in 2007 with Brian Lynch penning the script.

That version remained in development hell until Disney acquired Fox and it was cancelled. This marks a whole new incarnation of the project.

Robbie, Roy Lee, Josey McNamara and Tom Ackerley will produce. Plot specifics are under wraps.
