Michael Keaton returns to his iconic character of Beetlejuice in the first photos from “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the sequel to director Tim Burton’s cult 1988 hit.
Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are back as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively, with “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid.
The photos also include Justin Theroux who plays Rory, but specifics of his character are under wraps.
EW premiered the photos and Burton tells the outlet in an interview that the sequel picks up decades later with a death in the family: “That’s all I will say. There’s something that happens that sets things in motion.”
Talking about his star Michael Keaton returning to the role, he says:
“He just got back into it. It was kind of scary for somebody who was maybe not that overly interested in doing it. It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, sort of like demon possession, just went right back into it.”
Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti and Willem Dafoe co-star in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” which will hit theaters on September 6th.
