“Skyfall” and “1917” director Sam Mendes is reportedly planning four separate films about The Beatles – each one unfolding from the perspective of each of the band’s members.

The plan is for the four films to intersect and “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history” with everything leading up to their 1970 breakup.

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison have all reportedly granted full life story and music rights for the scripted films – the first time the Beatles have granted their full support for a scripted film.

Mendes says in an official statement: “I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment will both finance and distribute all four films with plans to release all four theatrically in 2027 with an “innovative and groundbreaking” strategy. Mendes, Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor will produce.

Harris says: “What is truly exciting is for Sam to have the freedom to delve into the lives of each of the Beatles, with nothing off limits and no sense of the band wanting him to tell a particular ‘authorized’ version of their rise to success.”

The Beatles changed the face of music and pop culture fame forever, and there have already been multiple documentaries on the band in recent years, including Ron Howard’s “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years” and Peter Jackson’s docuseries “The Beatles: Get Back”.
