Just over two weeks into its run and Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel “Dune: Part Two” has hit another box-office marker.

By end of weekend, the film has reportedly grossed $494.7 million globally with $208 million from North America and $289.4 million internationally.

The title is expected to surpass the $500 million mark by Monday, a rare event in post-pandemic times. Unsurprisingly it’s the highest-grossing film of the year so far at both the domestic and worldwide box office.

More importantly it has now completely outgrossed its predecessor. By late last weekend, it had surpassed the entire domestic tally of the first film in North America.

By the end of this weekend, it’s well ahead of its predecessor worldwide with the 2021 film having generated $433 million at the worldwide box office.

Glowing word-of-mouth and interest in premium formats have seen sales remaining strong for the movie which has reportedly surpassed a $100 million haul from IMAX screens alone.

The film cost $190 million to produce and is estimated to have cost roughly $100 million to promote to global audiences. Logically the film therefore needs to hit the $600 million mark to be in profit at the box-office – something it looks quite likely to achieve.
