By The first trailer has been released for Chris Pine’s mystery-comedy directorial debut “Poolman” at AGC Studios. Vertical will release the film in cinemas on May 10th.
Pine will star as Darren Barrenman, a hapless dreamer who spends his days maintaining the pool of a Tiki-themed L.A. apartment block and crashing city council meetings with his neighbors (Danny DeVito, Annette Bening).
When Barrenman uncovers the greatest water heist in LA history, he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned-out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors.
Jennifer Jason Leigh, DeWanda Wise, Ray Wise, Juliet Mills, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Clancy Brown co-star. Pine, Stacey Sher, Patty Jenkins and Ian Gotler will produce.
Pine and Gotler co-wrote the script which is dubbed “Big Lebowski meets Chinatown with a splash of La La Land”.
The film famously premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year to scathing reviews and currently sits at 23% (3.1/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.
