A sequel to Marvel Studios’ 2021 feature “Eternals” is reportedly no longer in development according to scooper DanielRPK.
The report indicates Marvel is focusing on fewer risks and more guaranteed hits with its movies along with the already known slowdown in the number of titles it plans to release in a given period.
“Eternals” received harsh reviews upon release, and managed just $402 million worldwide at the box office – low by Marvel standards.
There have been murmurings of a sequel since release, but there has been no indication of the studio moving forward with one, which makes the report (if true) not surprising.
It also follows in the wake of comments by co-star Kumail Nanjiani last month about how hard it was to promote the film after the reviews slammed the movie.
After “Eternals” flopped, Marvel saw other titles like “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and most recently “The Marvels” all failing to meet expectations and suffer some harsh words from its fanbase.
