Joshua Jackson has joined the cast of the new “The Karate Kid” film at Sony Pictures.
The role will mark the former “Dawson’s Creek” and “The Affair” star’s first feature film role in nearly a decade. The actor most recently starred in Peacock’s “Dr. Death” and Paramount+ series “Fatal Attraction”.
Ben Wang (“American Born Chinese”) leads the cast of the coming-of-age martial arts drama which will also see franchise regulars Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprising their iconic characters.
The film aims to continue the mythology of the original franchise, but plot specifics are under wraps beyond it focusing on a teenager of Chinese heritage living on the U.S. East Coast who finds strength and direction via martial arts.
Jackson’s role is described as one of the main characters in the piece. Jonathan Entwistle (“I’m Not Okay With This”) is directing from a script by Rob Lieber.
Karen Rosenfelt is producing the film which is targeting a December 13th release date.
