Stand-up comedian and actor Richard Lewis has died. Lewis reportedly passed away from a heart attack – he was 76.

Lewis announced back in April last year he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease back in 2021 and was retiring from stand-up comedy. His last screen appearance was in the twelfth season of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” currently airing on HBO.

Lewis played a semi-fictionalized version of himself throughout the 24 years of that show. The comedian was famed for his dark, neurotic and self-deprecating humor.

On the big screen he first broke through on the telemovie “Diary of a Young Comic” along with guest appearances on Johnny Carson, David Letterman and Howard Stern.

One of his early gigs was co-starring opposite Jamie Lee Curtis as the leads of the sitcom “Anything But Love” which ran for four seasons. He also had TV roles in “Daddy Dearest,” “Hiller and Diller,” “Rude Awakening,” “7th Heaven,” “Til Death” and “Blunt Talk” along with many guest starring spots in various shows.

On film he was Prince John in “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and had key roles in “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Wagons East,” “Once Upon a Crime,” “Hugo Pool,” “Vamps,” “She’s Funny That Way,” and “Sandy Wexler”.
