Whilst “Succession” has dominated many of the TV awards for drama series in the past few months, this weekend saw a welcome shake-up as Pedro Pascal took home the SAG Award for Male Actor In a Drama Series for his work in HBO’s “The Last of Us”.

It marks Pascal’s first major industry recognition with the actor genuinely surprised by the win in his slightly drunk acceptance speech – later revealing he teared up with his publicists backstage.

Pascal flew in for the night from Vancouver where the second season of “The Last of Us” has been in production for two weeks. Asked about how it’s going by Deadline, he praised the production team:

“Filming is going… amazing. It’s sort of awe-inspiring the kind of focus and dedication that everyone has going into Season 2. This kind of guide and leadership that I’ve not experienced before.

It’s incredible to be back home with them and creatively and everybody, our entire crew, they’re working harder than I could even imagine, even harder than our first season which is close to impossible. It’s pretty inspiring and unbelievable and this is because of them.”

He also spoke about returning to the role of Joel, saying:

“Stepping into those boots again, it feels strangely brand new. I’ve never done anything like this before that has such original authorship before I ever got to it.

Then to be given the space to author what would I have to give and to be under Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann and alongside Bella Ramsey has been really the whole reason it works for me. I guess I’m learning something new every day, and I’ll be thinking about it probably for the rest of my life.”

Newcomers for the new season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina and Young Mazino as Jesse.

Pascal also spoke briefly with ET Online about the upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot and says he’s “beyond excited” to star in it:

“I can tell you how excited I am, which is beyond. There isn’t anything more exciting than being in a cast like that. To be invited to a family like that is unbelievable, and we all just want to do our best and share it with the world.”

Pascal, unfortunately, didn’t share further details about the upcoming superhero film’s production start or plot details. He did reportedly start a group chat for the cast though.
