The biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” once again ruled the box-office, this time an utterly dead one.

The film made $13.5 million in its second weekend of release, a decent 53% decline from its debut. To date, the $70 million budgeted film has made $71.1 million domestically and $120 million globally.

The anime film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — To the Hashira Training” came in second with $11.5 million, slightly above its predecessor “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — To the Swordsmith Village” with $10.1 million last year.

Neither film however is in the same league as 2021’s “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” which hauled in $21 million during the pandemic.

That was followed by the faith-based Hilary Swank inspirational drama “Ordinary Angels” in third with $6.2 million. It certainly preached to the faithful who awarded it an A+ CinemaScore in exit polls. Faith-based dramas tend to have legs in the U.S. but no traction overseas.

Not faring so well was Ethan Coen’s comedic thriller “Drive-Away Dolls” which came in eighth with just $2.5 million – not a good start. Critical reviews are mixed and the CinemaScore is a woeful C in exit polls for the R-rated queer crime caper which Coen hopes will be the first of a trilogy.

“Madame Web” came in fourth with $6 million, down 61% from its opening weekend. The $80 million budgeted film has pulled in $77 million globally to date and looks to be the year’s second big misfire after “Argylle” which sits on just $86 million worldwide from a $200 million budget.

“Migration” closed out the box-office in fifth with $3 million – up to a very solid $268 million worldwide. Other notable news was that rom-com “Anyone But You” has passed $200 million worldwide whilst Oscar contender “Poor Things” is approaching $100 million.

Overall domestic box office for the weekend was down 18% from 2023 as everyone awaits the arrival of “Dune: Part Two” this coming week.
