The fourth season of “Superman & Lois” on The CW will be the show’s last and now it has been revealed why the show was cancelled.
Following the network’s Television Critics Association press tour this week, CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz tells The Wrap that though “Superman & Lois” has performed very well for them, the decision to end it came from production company Warner Bros. Television.
He says specifically: “They don’t want a competing Superman product in the marketplace,” in reference to James Gunn’s upcoming 2025 film “Superman: Legacy”.
The series has yet to set a premiere date for the shortened final run, which will unfold mostly in Metropolis, but it’s expected closer to the Fall than the Summer. Schwartz says: “I watched the first episode last night. It will make you cry.”
Most of the rest of The CW’s line-up, like “All-American” and “Walker”, will return in early April.
The CW is also working on turning classic board games “Trivial Pursuit” and “Scrabble” into game shows, and has set the TV series “Sherlock & Daughter” starring David Thewlis as Holmes and Dougray Scott as Moriarty.
