Channing Tatum is set to star in the true crime story “Roofman” which hails from Oscar nominated filmmaker Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine,” “The Place Beyond the Pines”).

The film is based on the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former U.S. Army Reserve officer and an eccentric and charming serial robber.

Manchester broke into more than sixty McDonald’s overnight via their roofs, emptying cash registers in the morning after herding staff into freezers.

He became known as the ‘Roofman’ and was known for his gentle demeanor and rarely resorting to violence. Imprisoned in 2000, he escaped jail and evaded capture by holing up for months in a Toys ‘R Us and Circuit City store in North Carolina.

He was eventually recaptured and sent back to jail. The film will put the focus on that several months of him being on the lam.

Cianfrance and Kirt Gunn are co-writing the script whilst Dylan Sellers and Chris Parker will produce. Limelight will finance.
