It’s official, Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” is coming back to cinemas with Warner Bros. Pictures releasing a poster and trailer to promote the special re-release on February 23rd.

The one-week run on IMAX screens later this month will include an exclusive sneak peek of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” which opens the following week on March 1st.

Nolan and Villeneuve are big fans of one another with this being seen as Nolan helping to push Villeneuve’s event feature.

“Tenet” released in September 2020 and was famously the first Hollywood tentpole to be released as cinemas began reopening during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The film never got a full run though, its IMAX footprint was limited, and it never played in New York and Los Angeles at the time.

This hopes to correct that a bit. In a statement, the director’s say:

Nolan: “Seeing the way audiences responded to our large format presentations of Oppenheimer, I’m thrilled that Warner Bros. is giving audiences a chance to see Tenet the way it was intended to be seen, on the largest IMAX and large format film screens, and I’m honored to have our movie warm up the film projectors for Denis’ jaw-dropping Dune: Part Two.”

Villeneuve: “As an audience member, I have always valued Chris’s forward thinking when it comes to shooting on film and especially in large formats. As directors, we are completely in sync; on Dune, we shot several sequences for Imax, and I simply loved it, so for Dune: Part Two, we pushed it to 100 percent of the movie. That is why I am just as eager to see Tenet again, but now in 70mm Imax, the way they filmed it, to fully appreciate his vision for this incredible film.”

The re-release is also seen as a gesture from new Warner Bros. movie chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy who obviously hope to lure Nolan back to the studio after the previous regime saw him up and leave.

For one week only, experience it on the biggest screen possible. As it was meant to be seen. #TENET pic.twitter.com/U9S2YJfRsL
