The new film adaptation of the stage musical based on the 2004 film “Mean Girls” once again ruled the box-office on what is expected to be one of the lowest-grossing weekends of the year.

The ladies saw a 62% decline but are still sitting atop at $11 million for the three-day weekend. At ten days the film will sit at $49.3 million – putting it 17% ahead of the original “Mean Girls”.

The overall box-office was $68 million, down 8% compared to last year in this weekend, a marked change from the first two weekends of January which have been ahead of 2023 and were $85.7 million and $97 million respectively.

The second weekend of the Jason Statham-led “The Beekeeper” fared a bit better in terms of drop-off, falling 50% to $8.3 million and a ten day total of $31 million.

The only wide release this weekend, the international space station thriller “I.S.S.”, was a bit of a fizzer on debut with an opening of just $3.3 million. Critics were mixed and audiences gave it a woeful C- CinemaScore.

IMAX’s Queen Rock Montreal is reportedly pulling in $1.72 million, whilst the Ava DuVernay-directed “Origin” is set to take in $833,000.
