We are a few days late to the party on this, but the trailer has dropped for Abigail. It is not a spoiler to tell you all about it, as the trailer gives the main thrust of the story away.

Abigail is a monster horror film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream) from a screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. Based on and a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter.

After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.

The project was stated to be a modern-day adaptation of one of the Universal Classic Monsters characters similar in approach to The Invisible Man (2020), Renfield (2023), or the upcoming Wolf Man. The studio releases describe it as a unique take on legendary monster lore that will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate classic characters.

Abigail stars Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud (in a posthumous film appearance), and Giancarlo Esposito.

Cloud was found dead in his family’s house in Oakland, California, on July 31, 2023, aged 25. The cause of death was an accidental multiple drug overdose.

Principal photography began on June 30, 2023, in Dublin, Ireland, under the working title Abducting Abigail, but filming was suspended in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
