The official social media accounts for the horror video game franchise “Bendy and the Ink Machine” have posted an update announcing that a feature film adaptation of the games are in the works.
The announcement of the project came this morning, a Christmas Day present to fans. The image announcing the release didn’t reveal any specific details, only confirming that “Bendy is coming to the big screen”.
Radar Pictures is reportedly producing the film and it’s not yet clear if this will be animated or live-action.
Released in 2017 and inspired by the “BioShock” game series, the episodic first-person survival horror game sees players taking on the role of a retired animator named Henry Stein who is driven to return to his abandoned animation studio.
Stein discovers a series of strange paranormal activities caused by the titular Ink Machine. Players participate in combat, puzzle solving and more in order to proceed. Players can also find audio logs recorded by the studio’s employees in order to understand the game’s history and to escape what becomes a cartoon nightmare.
The announcement follows a bunch of game-to-film adaptations this year including box-office hits “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Last of Us” and the well-received Peacock series “Twisted Metal”.
Well-received upon release, the game was followed up by a prequel in 2020 and a sequel in 2022 with another entry currently in the works.
