One piece of fan casting that has long lingered over the years has been that of “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam for the role of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow character from the DC Comics.

At one time years ago, when Zack Snyder was assembling his DC Extended Universe, there was a push for Hunnam to join the franchise but it was never clear if it was anything but fans campaigning.

Nearly a decade later, Snyder and Hunnam have finally worked together on the sci-fi epic “Rebel Moon” which hit cinemas yesterday and is coming to Netflix on Friday.

Speaking with Comicbook.com at a press event, Hunnam revealed that he was, at one point in time, offered the opportunity to play Green Arrow by some studio executives:

“I never talked to Zack about it. Honestly, I don’t remember who. It was some people in suits, brought the idea to me and thought it would be terribly exciting for me to play Green Arrow and I… did not share their enthusiasm.

I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.’”

It’s not quite clear at which point Hunnam was offered the role be it for the Snyder-verse version or something either earlier or later. Regardless, Hunnam doesn’t seem to be in any rush to join a superhero franchise.
