Get ready to say goodbye to the “Fast and the Furious” franchise with the final movie set to arrive in 2026.
During a panel this weekend at CCXP MX, the helmer offered updates on the production timeline for the project which he’s set to direct after handling last year’s “Fast X”.
In fact, Leterrier is set to jump from his original sci-fi horror film titled “11817” which he’s about to direct, over to production on “Fast 11” immediately after. He tells Collider:
“It [Fast 11] is happening. It’s happening very, very soon. I’m able to shoot a little horror movie this summer . I’m finishing my horror movie on September 15th, and I start Fast on September 16th.”
Seeking clarification, Leterrier says that date is when he starts work on the film in terms of pre-production and other prep. Actual filming will take place early next year:
“It’s filming early next year, and it’s coming out in 2026, which will be exactly to the day, 25 years since the first one came out”.
That film released June 22nd 2001 and Universal is obviously going to try and match as close to that anniversary date as they can with a Summer release pretty certain.
Leterrier confirms the final movie will come full circle by returning to Los Angeles in a nod to the franchise’s roots: “That’s what we wanna do. We wanna bring it back home, and still have a great big journey to tell.”
“Fast X” managed to earn over $700 million at the global box office despite a mixed reception, but its cost blowout led to a production budget of $340 million. Universal will no doubt be keeping an eye on that budget for the next outing.
