With Disney having pushed back its live-action “Snow White” adaptation to 2025, you would think we wouldn’t be hearing much from it for a while.

Think again. The film’s star Rachel Zegler, currently in cinemas with “The Hunger Games” prequel, appeared this week alongside “The Little Mermaid” actress Halle Bailey for Variety’s Actors on Actors video series.

During the chat she spoke about filming the live-action take on the famed “Whistle While You Work” song from the original, which involves Snow White singing as she tidies the dwarves’ house and interacts with a bunch of woodland creatures.

The live-action version will thus involve filming scenes with a lot of computer-generated effects which she calls really intense:

“Most of that day was spent singing to nothing. I’m sure you also know how that can be. There was a lot of puppetry and CGI in post. It was really intense. There’s a lot of bloopers of me tossing a broom and letting it fall to the ground because that’s apparently how you toss things off to CGI characters. But it’s so much fun!”

Zegler also spoke more generally about her casting as Snow White and the history of the character, saying she’s well aware of how iconic the character is and how important it is to get right:

“This is an iconic thing that people really care about. I don’t want to mess this up for anybody, including myself. The writers and Marc Webb and our entire producing team…it’s a bit different story wise. We were able to do ‘Whistle While You Work,’ which made me really happy and excited. I was really nervous more about the technical element. That first-look image went out… and there’s a lot of CGI in the film.”

Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) directs the project from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. The film also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, and Martin Klebba as Grumpy. It opens in cinemas March 21st 2025.
