Right at the start of the year came the news that “Barbie” stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling would re-team for an “Ocean’s 11” prequel at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Filming on the heist comedy has been described as a story set in Monte Carlo in 1962 during the Monaco Grand Prix and serves as something of a remake of the original 1960 film that starred Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Angie Dickinson, among others.
Jay Roach helms the movie and the heist itself reportedly takes place on the private yacht of a famed shipping magnate. Hitchcock’s “To Catch a Thief” and “Notorious” have previously been cited as big influences.
Now a new report at Showbiz 411 indicates that the planned film will be going by the title “Oceans” with the pair playing the parents of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and Sandra Bullock’s Debbie Ocean characters.
The trade confirms “Oceans” will set up the more modern-set “Ocean’s 11” trilogy and “Ocean’s 8”. Filming was to begin mid-year but the actor’s strikes halted that, so it’s not clear when it will resume production.
Gary Ross, Josey McNamara, Michelle Graham, Tom Ackerley, and Olivia Milch produce.
