In what will surely be a well-balanced, subtle and nuanced piece of work, Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi has cast Donald Trump for his upcoming new film The Student.

Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Sebastian Stan, will play the young Donald Trump.

The movie will cover Trump’s formative years building his real estate business in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. It will also deal with his relationship with attorney Roy Cohn.

The project is written by Gabriel Sherman, who directed some episodes of The Last Of Us and authored The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News – and Divided a Country.

With an election coming in 2024, the timing is clear as it is likely Trump will be Republican front runner come next year.

Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova has joined the cast as Ivana Trump, with Jeremy Strong (Succession) as Cohn.

The project was originally called The Apprentice, linking up to the title of Trump’s TV show that was probably as responsible as anything for placing him firmly in the public consciousness ahead of his first Presidential run.
